    Comments, Additional Information, References

With its four Ionic columns, this house at 5169 Pre-Emption Road in the town of Geneva is one of the most attractive cobblestone houses in the Finger Lakes region. It is located a short distance north of the Yates county line in Ontario county. It was built for David Barnes between 1835 and 1838 and is of Greek Revival architecture. It is built of field cobblestones. The columns and wide cornice moldings simulate the entablature of a Greek temple. Other Greek Revival features include the recessed doorway and the large lentil over the doorway. It is in a fine state of preservation and has changed little inside. The fine corner block moldings with palmettes remain in the parlor. Richard Palmer blog.
